Having a mean cup of Joe is an excellent way to kickstart your day.

Not only does it increase your metabolism and sharpen your mind, but it also improves your mood by inducing a feel-good factor.

However, you may want to switch up from the daily black or white coffee to something creamier, fancier, and more delicious from time to time.

This is where whipped coffee comes in. It’s made from three ingredients only:

  1. Instant coffee
  2. Sugar
  3. Water

It's an easy-to-make coffee drink. All you have to do is ensure all three ingredients are in equal parts.

The best part is, you don’t have to leave your home to enjoy it.

Is Whipped Coffee the Same as Dalgona Coffee?

Whipped coffee is famously known as Dalgona coffee. It rose to fame after it went viral on TikTok, a popular social media app.

The name ‘Dalgona’ comes from a sweet sugar candy called Dalgona in South Korea.

This was after actor Jung II-woo commented on the Stars’ Top Recipe Fun-Staurant show that the coffee he’d ordered in Macau resembled the Dalgona candy.

TikTok users picked up the actor’s video. Thus, the Dalgona coffee trend was born.

Did you know this fancy drink is known as beaten coffee in India and frappe coffee in Greece?

Before we jump in on how to make whipped coffee, let’s first have a look at everything you’ll need.

What You’ll Need to Make Whipped Coffee at Home?

1. Instant Coffee

The most commonly used type of coffee in making a whipped cup of Joe is instant, but that’s not the only type you can use.

Coffee beans are also an excellent option, but first, you’ll need to grind them to a fine powder using a coffee grinder.

Pro-Tip: If you want a super fine grind, sieve the powder using a filter to remove any coarse particles.

Moreover, instant espresso is also a good alternative.

2. Sugar

There’s a variety of sugars you can use, but the most recommended is granulated.

Granulated sugar includes:

  • White sugar
  • Brown sugar
  • Coconut sugar
  • Raw sugar

However, if you don’t like sugar or are on a sugar-restricted diet, you can use the following alternatives:

  • Stevia
  • Erythritol
  • Monk fruit sweetener

3. Water

When making whipped coffee, hot or cold water is fine. However, if you want faster results, it’s best to use hot water.

4. Bowl

To make a fluffy whipped coffee, it’s recommended to use a bowl. The fluffiness results from the blend mixing with air.

Therefore, if you use a jar or a jug, air movement is reduced, and the resulting cream isn’t as fluffy.

5. Mixer

To make whipped coffee, you’ll need a tool to mix the ingredients thoroughly.

You can use:

  • A hand whisk
  • An electronic hand mixer
  • A stand mixer

  4. Continue to whip until the mixture turns from a dark coffee-colored liquid to a light-brown thick mixture. The longer you continue to beat the mixture, the creamier and fluffier it becomes. Wait until you observe peaks forming on the edges of the whisk.
  5. Once the whipped coffee is sufficiently creamy, frothy, and light-brown, set it aside.
  6. Into your favorite cup, glass, or mug, add cold/hot milk to a three-quarter level. Avoid filling to the brim.

    Pro-Tip:
You can also use cold or hot water instead of milk.

    Vegans can use:

    • Almond milk
    • Coconut milk
    • Soy milk

If you like a super cold drink, add some ice cubes.

  7. Serve the whipped coffee by spooning it on top of the water or milk. You can add as little or as much as you want.
  8. Using a spoon or a straw, stir the coffee drink slowly to distribute the sweetness and flavor evenly.
  9. Finally, enjoy your creamy, fluffy, and delicious coffee drink.
